Holistic Healing using Vital Energy

Solving medical, emotional, psychological and spiritual problems in a modern, technological world has become problematic, especially to those disillusioned with modern science and medicine. Now a new surge in traditional and alternative aids have come to light once again; many of a natural or, in some way, spiritual (holistic) nature; making them far more appealing than pharmaceutical or or otherwise standard medical practices. The word 'Holistic' actually means to 'operate on the whole being', and this is what these natural arts do - to look at the whole picture - to target the causes rather than the symptoms of any problem. To fully appreciate this new world of opportunity it is all the more important to understand how these therapies work. Again, everything is linked together in some way, so examining one topic may lead the inquirer in all sorts of connected directions.

First of all, in order to get the full background to the subject we are about to look at, it is important to first understand the nature of Vital Energy, as this is linked to all the arts described below. If you are still unfamiliar with this amazing concept, then please take time out to read Vital Energy - The Source of all Creation. I can then introduce the holistic therapies as if you know about Energy already, and can go into detail as to how Vital Energy is used in each case.

Direct Channelling of Energy

Healing is a subject which has been around for thousands of years and is a topic our alternative thinking society is again embracing. When most people imagine healing, they think of hands-on therapy or something requiring a hospital bed - but healing goes beyond all that. The theory of healing actually means 'to channel energies within a patient so that the body may heal itself'. Healers of all descriptions, medical or otherwise, are simply doing just that - helping the patients body to heal itself. Whereas a doctor would stimulate the body through drugs - channelling helpful fluids towards the affected areas and boosting the bodies immune system, a holistic healer would channel the pure Life Force itself into the body so that it may be used in a similar way. (N.B. the 'Life Force' is another name for Vital Energy). The body will know how and where to use these aids to heal - even if the practitioner does not.

There are many ways in which the Life Force can be channeled into the body. Healers have learned how to do this directly by using their own bodies as a conduit, through which they can direct the flow of energy directly into the affected areas. The advantage of using an element as fluid as the Life Force is that the body can also use the energy to target the original causes of the complaint as well as the resultant symptoms. For example, if the patient has high blood pressure, healing will work to calm the body and reduce the likelihood of problems which result in high blood pressure. If the patient suffers from a lack of physical energy due to Depression or other mental ailment, healing will work to calm the neural network, energise the blood, the muscles, and digestive system, and cleanse the body from the inside out - so creating a pathway for the body to release its Depression - its dis-ease. Of course, the initial causes of these ailments may be unknown to the patient, and in some cases, healing has been known to unlock or awaken subconscious elements which have been hidden.

It is also worth mentioning at this point that the healer does not (or should not at least) be channelling their own Vital Energy into the patient. Rather they are acting as a medium; a conduit through which the Vital Energy inherent in the atmosphere and universe all around us, can be channeled though. The chakras of the healer are enlarged to allow more energy into their body than they actually need for themselves. By their own will, the healer will cause the flow of this surplus to pass along their arms and out though the open out-flowing chakras of the palms. The healer doesn't even need to touch the patient for this transition to happen; the energy will flow to where it is needed as long as it is directed towards the patient in some manner. By this principle, it is also possible to send this healing force along great distances towards a patient. The healer simply uses the same 'will of motion' to send the flow of healing out to wherever the patient may be. Time and distance is irrelevant to vital energy - which flows everywhere all at the same time anyway! In fact, the sending of healing can be simply a matter conscious intention and will. To send out healing through wish or prayer is merely a matter of directing the flow of Vital Energy towards the intended target. If one can will energy to enter the body, and one can wilfully direct its flow, then one can also will Vital Energy to flow into a person or subject at any distance. This form of healing is commonly called Absent Healing, as it does not need the healer and patient to be in contact, or near each other for it to work.

Another great advantage of using this kind of Energy channelling is that it is useful for easing any physical, mental, emotional or often spiritual discomfort or dis-ease - and in this way it can be truly said to be 'Holistic' - the treatment of the whole body. Food, Plants, Animals, Machines, Electrical Appliances and even Correspondence can benefit from Healing; whether it helps them grow, survive, recover, operate, or potentially function in a healthy and positive way.

The feelings described by patients under any holistic treatment are varied. Most often, the patient can feel the Energy flowing in one way or anther; sometimes through a tingling or prickly feeling, a lightness of the body, as heat or cold sensations, or as a flow - almost like an internal stream of water flowing around the body. Serious unpleasant feelings are very rare; even in cases where severe trauma needs to be released. Instead, the Energy will sooth or energise as needed, and the patient is likely to feel the repercussions of this in some way; as relaxation, peacefulness, upliftment or vitality. Because of this, the effect of Direct Healing is often immediate, and the results can be measured.

However, the biggest disadvantage as far as science goes, is that these methods have not been studied enough to be recommended by doctors or the medical profession. We have relied on drugs for so long that we have forgotten how effective alternative practices can be. Because of this, I too must recommend that Healing must only be used along with recognised treatments and medicines for serious conditions. For minor complains, you have the freedom to choose whichever treatments appeal to you. Your body knows what you need - follow your own wisdom.

Common Direct Healing Techniques

Faith and Spiritual Healing
Using the direct channelling method of healing has been practiced for many centuries by various practitioners. More recently, the religion of Spiritualism has popularised a form known as Faith Healing, in which the healer calls upon their own spirit guides and helpers to channel Vital Energy though them to where it is needed. It is called Faith healing because it is said that the more one has faith in the technique, so the easier and more effective the process will become. This method has also been called Hands-On Healing and Spiritual Healing by many - even though it is not actually necessary to lay the healers hands on the patients body; and nor is it completely necessary to be involved with any recognised form or spiritual belief system or religion in order to practice it.

This art of Healing can be practiced from any book or tutor with enough knowledge of the subject. The healer must be of sound mind and with a good heart; as any negativities the healer experiences may be passed on to the patient. By practicing regularly, the healer will become more confident in his or her abilities, and the capacity to channel Energies will become ever stronger. The benefit of the Spiritualist religion is that they only allow professionally trained and accredited healers to work alone with patients. Their tuition and development courses are in-depth and comprehensive, and healers are only given a full certificate after a full two years of supervised practice. Healing is also given completely free of charge at most Spiritualist churches. For these reasons, Spiritualist Faith Healing is safe, effective, and well worth a try - even for the sceptical amongst us.

Reiki
The art of Reiki was rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui (pronounced 'oo,soo,ee') circa 1912 on Mt. Koriyama, Japan. Before that, the ancient art of using symbols and sounds to activate the flow of Vital Energy in the Human Body had not been used since its common use and subsequent disappearance thousands of years before. He discovered that by drawing (placing) a series of symbols within the aura of a person, they would open up the persons mentality and physiology to the attributes of healing. As his students were taught how to open their chakras and actively channel Vital Energy, the symbols acted as keys which, simply by recalling them, would instantly activate the Healing process. These symbols could be used as a catalyst to allow the healers to achieve what they wanted to achieve, and manipulate Vital Energy in an easier way than relying on intent and will alone. The symbols also acted as anchors to direct the healers will, and also gave confidence to the healer and their abilities - so helping the Energy flow easier and more effectively.

More recently, this technique has made it's way around the world, and into the lives of many. Because of its methods of triggering the healing ability within us all, the way in which it is taught is very different from that of Faith Healing. To receive the symbols into ones aura, students go through a practice known as the 'attunement'. This is a guided meditation in which the attuner prepares the students mind and body for the subtle awareness of the Healing ability within themselves, and also draws symbols within the aura using a hand or wand. The first attunement enables healing of the self and others. In a second attunement - recommended to be taken at least three months after the first - the student is given a further two symbols; the first to strengthen the Energy flow, and the second to promote the skill of Absent Healing. Finally, after at least a year after the second attunement, the student may decide to take a further final attunement where the attunement symbol itself is drawn and the student is given the ability to pass on and teach the Reiki training to others. This is known as 'Reiki Mastership'. Training after each attunement is non-specific, and can be as much as a days tuition, or a course which stretches for several months. Unlike Spiritualist Faith Healing, Reiki does not have a singly recognised regulating body or official guidelines to work within, and its effectiveness depends on the abilities and skills of each healer. In most cases it is not provided free of charge, but can be made more readily available - being offered by a variety of health centres and private practitioners. Another note here is that the effectiveness of the healing does not necessarily depend on the attunement level of the healer. On the contrary, some first attunement (also known as Reiki 1) healers can work just as professionally and effectively as Reiki Masters.

Other Energy Manipulation Treatments

Crystal Healing
Crystals have also been used for many thousands of years for their ability to store energy and transmit it. The ancient Egyptians and Atlanteans used many crystals in their everyday lives; from generating power and light, to healing and keeping the body and immune systems in healthy shape. Today, much of the insight and latent power of crystals has been lost, but again due to a resurgence in alternative healing practices, crystal therapy had once again found its way into common thought.

Crystals are natural absorbers and transmuters of Vital Energy. Their structures allow Energy to be stored within them almost like batteries. The most familiar way to use crystals is to place them in a direct source of light - sun or moonlight (which are themselves carriers of Vital Energy), which charges them with positive healing Energy which can be absorbed later by anything they are placed near. As humans, we absorb this though food, water, and directly through our chakra system. If a crystal of a specific could is placed on or near a similar coloured chakra, the effect will be the opening and the flow of new Energy into that part of the body. Some crystals are good at transmitting these Healing Energies, such as the Quartz family of stones. Others are adept at absorbing negative Energies coming from within us; unblocking and soothing areas of discomfort, and freeing the flow of energy around the body.

Acupuncture
As oriental doctors have known for centuries, the Energy lines which run from the chakras also play important roles in our health, physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. Any form of dis-ease to ailment can quickly cause these lines to become blocked or restricted, and by strategically placing needles along these lines (and minor chakras), they can be unblocked; enabling the Life Force to flow freely again. Rather than being a direct channelling therapy, acupuncture works to enable to body to work through the restrictions which prevent it from absorbing enough Energy to heal itself.

This therapy is a recognised healing practice, and it can take many years for students to understand the finer intricacies of the art. Again, standards vary depending on the wisdom of the tutor and student alike, although even a basic knowledge of acupuncture can be a valuable aid for symptoms or stress and worry, anxiety and depression, lethargy and even insomnia.

Reflexology
The lines which carry Vital Energy around the body all end in the feet, and by manipulating and stimulating specific areas of the foot, a healer can clear a line which is causing an ailment in the body. All the organs, including the Heart, the Lungs, the Kidneys and even the Brain all connect to the feet, and a problem in one or many of these can can addressed quickly and easily by massaging the pressure points in each foot.

In case you are wondering just why all the Energy lines end in the feet, it is because the body is basically a bio-electrical instrument. It absorbs the Energy it needs to operate and power its components though the chakras. These are the 'live' circuits'. And as with any electrical circuit, the connection had to be linked to an 'earth' source in order for the Energy to flow. We make this connection by walking on the Earth - literally grounding ourselves so that the Energy may flow more easily. By applying pressure to the grounding points in the foot, the healer can send a current of Energy from the hands into the patient. This works to clear any blocks or restrictions along that line so that the organ can receive a better connection and flow once more. Again, rather than sending or channelling Energy into the patient to promote healing, reflexology works to remove the restrictions which prevent the body healing itself.

Although reflexology has been touted as a general healer of many common ailments, it does excel in certain areas. For example, much like acupuncture (which works on the same Energy lines), the treatment is good for stress and problems of tension and worry by actively relaxing the body and soothing tense nerves. It is also helpful for any blood circulatory problems, arthritis, and common ailments of the nervous system. Although the art is quite complicated for initial students, the basics can be picked up fairly quickly, and with good general results.

Naturopathy
Other alternatives to 'conventional' medicine are widely available in any health shop, pharmacy or supplement distributor. Examples include the Bach Flower Remedies. These are a collection of plant extracts which work with the body to target specific areas of treatment. The 38 recognised remedies on the market can individually target moods of shock, terror, hatred, impatience, uncertainty, selfishness, gloom, resentment and a host of others. There are many other plant extracts available such as Gingko Biloba to aid blood circulation and memory, and St. Johns Wort for Depression. Other therapies include Aromatherapy which uses concentrated plant extracts inhaled in vapour form to promote relaxation, alertness and concentration (not to be confused with supermarket chemical aromatherapy candles).

Unfortunately, science has been slow to trial these remedies to any great extent. The placebo value cannot be underestimated, and even placebo alone can give patients hope of recovery. Sometimes, it is this positivity which frees the body of the tension which is preventing it from healing itself in the first place!

Other Vital Energy based therapies
Colour Therapy, Music Therapy, Chakra Balancing, Vibration Therapy, Light Therapy, and others, work to open the chakras and stimulate the amount of Energy they take in.

Massage and Indian Head Massage attempt to relax the body enough to encourage healing to take place. As I stated above, often it is because the negativities and ailments of the body are being suppressed by tension that healing is slowed down or compromised. A slow, relaxed body is able to let Energy flow much easier that a fast, lively one; and just by giving the time to relax and unwind can be as valuable a healing treatment as any other. Again, excellent for tension and problems with suppression of emotion.

Yoga, Shiatsu, Thai Chi, Pilates, and other such body-toning arts are all geared towards opening the body and its internal Energy pathways, to allow the optimum force to flow easily around the body. Again, used as a healing technique, these methods can be quite effective as they effectively 'massage' the chakras and energy lines as one stretches, flexes, and manipulates the body. Thai Chi is excellent for really opening up those Energy Pathways and drawing in the maximum amount of Energy. The other three are also very good for toning the body and removing impurities and blocks from the Energy lines.
