LIFETIPS - Job Interviews

• If you know you have the skills required for the job you are applying for then there is no reason to go into an interview thinking YOU need a job from THEM. Rather it should be THEM who should give the job to YOU. If they don't then it's just their loss, not yours. In this case you don't need to be over-enthusiastic - just confident.

• Arrogance breeds confidence so in the interview, boast about your acheivments and make them beleive you have already practiced everything they are looking for. A little arrogance will not only give the interviewers more confidence in you but it will also give you more confidence with them.

• Try not to lie in an interview as a good interviewer will cross-reference everything you have talked about. You don't want to fall over on a lied question which comes back to hurt you later. If you have not had the exact training they are looking for, give reasons why and make an effort to suggest alternative skills which many could apply in the same situation.

• Try also not to lie on your CV. Many people try to make up evidence of previous jobs which they think will promote their chances, then find the job they are applying for actually asks for more information on these false jobs and eventually exposes a lier. High school grades also get changed for the same reasons yet employers rarely even notice them so altering your grades will probably do very little.

• If the interviewer asks if you have further questions, make sure you have at least two intelligent questions you can fire back such as: 'are their any pension schemes, medical plans or saving opportunities within the company?', or 'are their any flexi-time schemes in operation?', or 'how easy would it be for me to further my career within the company?'. Don't ask questions about holidays, sickness or time off, and try to avoid anything concerning money or wages.

   "I'm extremely adept at all manner of office organization" - I've used Microsoft Office.  
   "I'm honest, hard-working and dependable"  - I pilfer office supplies.  
   "I take pride in my work" - I blame others for any mistakes.  
   "I'm personable" - I give lots of unsolicited personal advice to co-workers.  
   "I am very adaptable" - I've changed jobs a lot.  
   "I am always on the go" - I'm never at my desk.  
   "I'm highly motivated to succeed" - The minute I find a better job, I'm outta here.
